MediaTek Prepare 12-Core Chip, Compete Intel Xeon Performance ?
According to the news, MediaTek is preparing chipsets for mobile devices that have 10 to 12 processor cores. If everything goes smoothly, then the chipset will be ready for use in the 2015's. 12 core chip also will be the first in the mobile segment though Intel has to apply first-in-class server via the Intel Xeon processor.
If this news is true, then the 64-bit chipset trend that started in early 2015 will soon be changed to this new chip trend. However, there are still some unanswered questions if true MediaTek chipset is preparing the core 12.
The first question related to the heat generated by the chipsets to be higher than core chipset with less. This will make the process of cooling on a mobile device more difficult to do given the fan may not be installed in a small-sized device.
The second issue related to the adaptation of software and programs. Currently the software developers are still working to change their program to a 64-bit platform, and if the 12-core MediaTek chipset appears the developer may need to do a re-optimization which would require extra time. The use of 12 core chip also considered excessive for a mobile device at this time. In addition, 12 core chipset also require greater power, and it will have an impact well on the durability of mobile devices typically use batteries with limited capacity.
Is MediaTek plan will actually materialize in 2015 or will just be empty words ?
