Google Introduces Modular Smartphone Prototype Project Ara

Google officially introduced the prototype modular smartphone Project Ara graduates with the name of the Spiral 2. Smartphone modular display for the first time in the second Ara Project developer conference on Wednesday (01.14.15).

Spiral 2 is built from MDK 0:20 version that Google launched earlier this month. There are 11 modules each prototype that serves as a reference design for third-party developers who want to join the Project Ara.

While the hardware for the Spiral 2 has been completed, the head of Project Ara stated that its firmware can not be resolved. According to the firmware was difficult. He even invited experts who attended the conference firmware to work with him.

In Spiral 2, electro-permanent magnets were previously located on the module is now placed on order endoskeleton. This is done to leave more space on the module.

Google also reveal specification Spiral 2 which consists of modules display resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, light and proximity sensors, 5 megapixel camera, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, 3G modem with antenna Band 2, Band 5 separate antenna, battery and speakers as well as the choice of processor modules Marvell PXA1928 or NVIDIA Tegra K1. The last module is a USB charging hole.
